Motion Sensor Trash CanRichmond, VA – Kathy Jenkins, CEO of online retailer Organized A to Z.com, has announced the addition of stainless steel motion sensor trash cans to the company’s inventory of organizing and storage products.

Manufactured by Nine Stars USA, the motion sensor trash can allows users to have little or no contact with trash when throwing items away. The lid automatically opens when motion is detected within 10 inches of the infrared motion sensor on the top of the can.

“These trash cans are great for any kitchen, bathroom, or in any room of your home or office,” said Jenkins. “When trash accumulates in a can, germs build up, too. By avoiding contact with the lid and other trash, we reduce the chance of coming in contact with those germs and getting sick from them.”

Since they open on their own, these trash cans also make it easier for those with physical challenges to discard items in the trash.

“The lids are perfectly engineered with a tight fit to insure odors are kept inside the can. They are produced from high quality stainless steel to protect from rust and water damage, so they are durable and will last a long time,” said Jenkins.

The motion sensor trash cans are battery operated, and each trash can will get a minimum of 10,000 open and closings before new batteries are needed. Most households will be able to use the trash cans for at least six months before replacing the batteries.

The trash cans come in a variety of sizes, including a round 1.3 gallon, and rectangular 6.3 gallon, 7.9 gallon, 11.1 gallon, and 13.2 gallon.

Based in Richmond, Virginia, Organized A to Z.com offers over 1,300 products to help consumers organize any room of their home or office. Downsizing Doesn’t Mean You Have to Get Rid of Everything

Don't Throw My Memories in the TrashAre you an adult child who needs to help your parents downsize and move or are you someone who needs to downsize and  move from your large home to a smaller home? Is it overwhelming to think about starting this process of downsizing and relocating? Would it be easier for you just to toss it all out in the trash and start over again?  Many seniors and their adult children are faced with the task of downsizing and relocating to a smaller home, apartment, or retirement community. Instead of throwing your memories in the trash, make a plan to start this process.

Making the decision to downsize and move to a smaller home or retirement community can be very difficult. Once you have come to that decision, you need to make a plan. What should you do with all your belongings?  Many seniors have a 2 story, 5 bedroom home with 50 years worth of dishes, furniture, slides, collections, and adult children’s past term papers and toys.  You realize that all of these things are not going to fit in your new home.  How do you start the process of dealing with all of this?

Moving WorkbookConsider these points when starting the process of downsizing and moving on.

  • A good way to start is to get someone to help you through the downsizing process because it can be overwhelming. You need help and support.
  • Think about what you are really need. Will you need place settings for 12 or will 6 maybe work? Do you really need three turkey roasters? When is the last time you made Thanksgiving dinner or do you always go to your son’s home for Thanksgiving?
  • Consider donations to social services agencies. You may be able to use the donation as a tax deduction and you are helping someone else in need.
  • Why not give pieces of furniture or other possessions to family members or friends that have admired them for years? If your granddaughter has loved your china hutch for years, why not give to her now and see the joy and happiness that it brings her today?
  • Adult children need to pick up their stuff out of your attic or spare bedroom! Unless you have decided to go into the rental storage business, adult children need to get their stuff out of your home.
  • Do not overwhelm yourself. Start with baby steps. Work a little each day on a section of your home: a drawer, or a closet shelf.
  • If you feel overwhelmed looking at a pile of papers that you need to sort through, start with just 15 minutes. Set an egg timer for 15 minutes, sort through the pile and then stop working when the timer goes off. You will make some progress and can start again the next day. Before you know it, you will have sorted through dresser drawers.
  • Remember every item you own requires your time, energy, maintenance, and money. Decide if the item is worth keeping.

While downsizing can be an emotionally and physically overwhelming process, it can be achieved through planning and organization.  Taking it one step at a time with some assistance can make the downsizing process a little easier.

Create Your Own Tickler System

We’re just 2 weeks into January, so it’s not too late to implement a new system to organize paperwork, bills, invitations, appointments, and other important items. I suggest creating your own tickler system, and we have several products that might help you.

A Tickler System helps you manage your “active papers”. Anything that comes in from school, work or the mail that needs action should be filed in your Tickler System. Each day, you can pull the items from your daily folder and instantly know what needs to get done today! It’s a great way to stay on top of your “To Do” list.

Our recommendation:

GTD Tickler File SystemTry our Get Things Done Tickler File solution. Documents, notes, and reminders of all sorts can be directly filed in this file set of 43 folders to automatically trigger action and/or review when needed, without loading up daily planners or getting lost in miscellaneous storage. If you want to be reminded to handle something in the future, but don’t want or need to think about it until then, it can be “tickled” to show up exactly on the day or month you’d like to see it again.

Not sure how this might fit into your life? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Regular reports and activities, from payroll taxes and performance reviews to computer back ups.
  2. Reminder of bill paying on a specific day to maximize your cash flow.
  3. Review of “Maybe” actions in catalogs, direct mail or deferred items
  4. Follow-ups including delegated actions
  5. Tickets of all kinds
  6. Travel directions needed for a specific appointment.
  7. Warranty expirations, and “Last date to…”
  8. Car care, kids events
  9. Birthday and anniversary cards to mail
